Volunteers fill many
roles at Hospice. They are an important part of the
patient care team, providing a special kind of caring
and compassion to Hospice patients and their
families. Without the work of volunteers the hospice
could not continue with its work.

the volunteer coordinator at your local hospice today
to start on the way to becoming a hospice volunteer.
The hospice will provide training and will work with
you to find the volunteer position that best suites
your abilities.

As a volunteer you may be asked to:
Report
to hospice staff on how a patient is doing
Provide
patient care, including:
- Reading
or talking with a patient
- Staying
with a patient while families members take a
needed break or keep an appointment
- Shopping
or doing errands for a patient
- Providing
transportation for a patient
- Listening
to patients and families
- Helping
patients write or tell their life stories
- Cooking
or helping with light household chores
- Providing
haircuts, manicures or help with makeup
- Assisting
a patient with bathing, shaving or other
personal care
Provide grief
support, including:
- Calling
or visiting bereaved families to offer
emotional support
- Facilitating
or assisting with support groups and seasonal
programs
Assist
with administrative duties, including:
- Typing,
answering phones and filing at the hospice
office
- Preparing
mailings
